Athena Systems tops the list of most secure Investment Management Software providers
Among all its competitors, Athena Systems has achieved the highest score in the cybersecurity ranking hosted by UpGuard, a complete third-party risk and attack surface management platform. Of the 950 total points, our company has scored 947 points, remaining just three points short of perfection.
Moreover, from all the companies in the sector submitted to UpGuard’s Ranking, only Athena has published an ISO27001 assessment report with a third independent party validation. ISO27001 is an information security management international standard created by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). With this, the firm intends to demonstrate to its clients that they do not have to worry about their private information in an act of full transparency.
After being the only company in completing the ISO27001 questionnaire, five low severity risks were found, for which Athena quickly found solutions. Subsequently, external penetration and phishing testing were implemented and no further risks were found.

Data protection of our customers is our priority
In 2021 alone, there have been nine known major data breaches, comprising of over 230 million records containing personally identifiable information (PII). These are in addition to the high-profile incursions into Sonic Wall and Solar Winds. “Attacks are becoming more frequent and more sophisticated. If you do not have world-class cybersecurity protocols, it is not a matter of IF your operations will be compromised by a hacker, but WHEN” states Luis Otero, Chief Executive Officer at Athena Systems.
After learning of these scandals and receiving concerns from our customers, we decided to submit our systems to UpGuard. Following this decision, our competitors quickly became aware of the IT danger and underwent the same ranking. We are therefore pleased to say that we have also raised awareness of security in our industry.
Long before the scandals, our team of professionals, led by Mr. Otero, had already managed to improve performance to have cybersecurity fully under control. As a result, the company has
obtained a brilliant score in the cybersecurity evaluation developed by UpGuard. 947 of 950, with a difference of more than 60 points from our nearest competitor.
As a SaaS firm, we have always focused on cybersecurity, but in recent months, our team has doubled its efforts and further improved our cybersecurity to ensure complete protection of our clients’ data. Due to the fear and concern caused by recent breaches, we needed to independently evaluate our cybersecurity, demonstrating that we maintain our technical dominance over our competitors and that our firm is strongly committed to the cybersecurity of our clients’ data.
How UpGuard ranking works
According to UpGuard, “The security rating calculation for a domain or IP address is based on hundreds of individual checks that can be grouped into the following eight categories”:

The objective of this evaluation is guaranteed by its empirical and independent character, and as they themselves state, ”no commercial agreement or lack thereof, gives an organization the ability to improve their security rating without improving their security posture”.
